The Portuguese American Citizenship Project is a civil rights campaign - we are neither Republican nor Democrat. The goal is simply and only to encourage Portuguese Americans to become U.S. citizens, to register to vote and, last but not least, to exercise their right to vote.
A great deal has been accomplished and we want to do much more.
From 1990 to 2008, the Portuguese American Citizenship Project was exclusively funded by the Luso American Foundation. The Foundation not only directly supported the activities of the Project’s Coordinator but it has also provided over 25 matching grants to community organizations and communities who are engaged in citizenship, voter registration and non-partisan get-out-the vote campaigns. In 2009, recognizing the value of the Project to the Portuguese communities of the United States, the Government of the Autonomous Region of the Azores offered a three-year financial commitment to the Project.
After twelve years of this assistance, it is time for us to stand on our own. It is important for individuals and communities in the United States to show their support for the Project. In order to continue our work, we need to raise funds from U.S. foundations, from government grants and from the Portuguese American community. You can help by providing financial support for our activities throughout the United States or you can request some or all of your donation be dedicated to your local community. All donations, large or small, for either purpose help.
Donations to the Portuguese American Citizenship Project may be made by mailing in a check payable to the Portuguese American Citizenship Project or by donating online securely using Paypal.
The Project is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. All donations are tax deductible. You will receive a letter of acknowledgement for tax purposes.
If you want further information or explanation of the Project and its goals, please call your local community organizers or contact the Project Coordinator.
We appreciate your help.
