The Portuguese American Citizenship Project
The Portuguese American Citizenship Project was created as a non-partisan effort to promote citizenship, voter registration and voting in the Portuguese American community. During its span of operations from 1999 to 2016, the Project cooperated with over 52 religious groups, social welfare organizations, fraternal associations, and clubs in five states, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.
A great deal has been accomplished but political organizing is a never-ending challenge and a great deal more needs to be done. This website is intended to chronicle the lessons learned during the Project's 16 years of operations and provide tools for others who are willing to take up the torch of promoting civic engagement in the Portuguese American community.
